In 1971 the High-rise was built as an Office building for post-office giro services beside the underground station “Möckernbrücke” in Berlin-Kreuzberg. In more recent times employees of the Postbank were working there. Now it is planned to restructure the tower and make it the center of a new developed quarter at the waterfront area “Hallesches Ufer”. A mega-project that will take shape over the next few years.
The central element of the new concept is the existing high-rise building that will be converted into a residential tower. It is planned to use the 18.000 sqm floor space to create 320 micro apartments between 45-60 sqm. The targeted group of tenants will be active and professionally committed people in need of a (partly) furnished apartment in Berlin. The spacious base will be redesigned to a modern marketplace. It can be used as a communication zone and living room for the neighborhood, where private and public spheres meet.
