Each project is a unique research into context and culture, and J. MAYER H. always develop individual designs for specific programs, sites and clients. The architecture is developed during the design process based on a repertoire of strategic explorations that the studio developed over the years, on pushing limits and being driven by the curiousity for the new. Some conceptual approaches are based on J. MAYER H.'s research by architectural projects and art installations. The studio looks closely at the site, critically rethink the program and try to extract something that is special to the specific site.

The experience cluster is a fusion concept combining a multi-brand store, various experiential offerings, events, and a hotel, and is directed towards adventurous visitors with a focus on a smart urban lifestyle. The large urban building complex is organized according to its various usages in several smaller boxes that are placed in an uneven grid. It includes an indoor-skydiving and a surf wave.
Rhein 740 - Medical Services and Residential Building
Sonnenhof is a mixed use co-operative housing project consisting of four new buildings with residential and commercial spaces. Located on a consolidated number of smaller lots in the historical center of Jena, Germany, the separate structures allow for free access and urban pedestrian flow through the grounds. Their placement on the outer edges of the plot defines a small-scale outdoor plaza congruent with the medieval city structure.
