In December 1999 Eike Becker and Helge Schmidt founded Eike Becker_Architekten in Berlin. Designing and constructing an architecture of superference, we count among Europe’s most successful architects.
Based on a profound understanding of how society functions, Eike Becker_Architekten designs unique architectural solution that work for people, organisations and communities. Relying on decades of experience acquired during planning and implementing complex urban architectural projects, our enthusiasm leads us to accompany every project until every last screw has been put in its place.
Eike Becker_Architekten is a skilful and reliable partner for our clients as well as all other stakeholders. We have a thorough understanding of the multitude of interests that coincide during the development of an architectural project. Our approach as much as our reputation guarantee that the end result will be a highly functional and flexible building, that is visually appealing and memorable.
Our range of services include urban planning and design as well architectural design services from determining the initial parameters of a project and developing a design in collaboration with clients, communities and end users through construction documentation. We specialise in offices, retail, interiors, product design, multifamily residential buildings, hotels, cultural and administrative structures, conversions and high-rises. Typical of our work in dense urban environments is, that often more than one of these uses will find a home in one of our projects.
The whole is more than the sum of its parts: In order for architecture and state of the art technology to enhance each other, we put the idea of the integrated design team into action. Global experts in their area of specialisation are involved in our planning process: from the very beginning, artists, engineers and designers work together towards a common vision.
ma'ro, Office and Commercial Building
Adjacent commercial buildings at Neue Mainzer Straße 74/80, mark the entrance to Neue Rothofstraße. Located in the central business district, our winning design comprises approx. 13000 sqm for offices and luxury retail. The architectural idea consists of stacking and composing boxes of various depths and length, with protrude and recede rhythmically from the public space. Through this device the Neue Rothofstraße is visually widened and both buildings strongly define their corner position.
Zirkus, Residential, Office and Hotel Building, Berlin
In an expansive space between Berliner Ensemble, Schiffbauerdamm and the Spree, the building occupies a solitary and arresting position. Its shape & mass are reminiscent of an early 20th C. Hamburg Kontorhaus. However, this large block is transformed toward a lighter, crystalline kind of architecture. 87 apartments with interiors designed in collaboration with Philippe Starck occupy about half of the approx. 33000 sqm of gross floor area. The remaining space houses offices, a hotel and stores.
The Garden – Residential Building, Chausseestraße, Berlin
On Chausseestrasse, between Berlin Mitte and the hip district of Wedding, in the space of the former border zone between East and West Berlin, a cluster of 17 residential building with a total of 276 apartments is in the final stages of realisation. Along Chausseestrasse the buildings are up to 10 floors high and offer retail spaces at ground level. As in 19th C. city planning, lush court yards with private gardens – a rarity in this inner city area! - create a peaceful living environment.
